Concept arising from Arendt's analysis of Nazism and particularly Adolf Eichmann, who committed acts of incredible evil on a daily basis but was not a particularly interesting guy. Part of the argument is that he was capable of such evil precisely because he was so thoughtless and pedestrian a person.
