Mid-90s OS designed for Apple hardware, positioned as a Mac OS alternative. At one point turned down a $125kk buyout offer from Apple, but never got critical mass of app developers and fizzled. Still around in the form of Haiku, and many of its ideas were influential (WinFS had some similar ideas to BeFS).
