Vietnam War

On 4 May 1970, the Ohio National Guard shot at a group of unarmed Kent State University students who were striking to protest the war in Vietnam, killing 4 and wounding 9.

The 4 dead, all shot from over 250 feet away: Jeffrey Miller, Allison Krause, William Schroeder, and Sandra Scheuer.

Public opinion at the time was widely against the students. 58% of respondents to a Gallup poll blamed the students and only 11% blamed the National Guard. Further violence against anti-war protestors followed: see Hard Hat Riot, University of New Mexico Bayonetings, Jackson State Killings
